Prada SunglassesEvery summer there’s one morning when some residents of Los Angeles County, mainly those on the Westside, pause before putting on their dark-shaded glasses. “Man, Prada, sun,” that trio of treats can wait. On one summer morning large numbers of people head for a restaurant on the border of Culver City. During one summer day the prices at a place called “Dinah’s” take a nose dive. One day each year, Dinah’s rolls back its prices, charging customers the going rate for the same item back in the late 1950s. That was when Dinah’s first opened its doors to the nearby residents in that area. It does not take long for a long line to form on the day when Dinah’s menu shows a low price for every dish. All sorts of L.A. area residents stand in that line. Some wear fake glasses. Prada sun worshippers might stand right next to such a heartthrob wannabe.
Some of those who dine at Dinah’s on that day are proud of their glasses by Prada. Replica sun protection might be seen on the face of others who hope to take advantage of the temporary price drop. All sorts of people show up at or soon after 6 am. Some come for great traditional pancakes. On the west side of Los Angeles, pancakes are like sunglasses. Some (like those at Dinah’s) favor tradition; they are generally eaten with lots of butter and maple syrup. Other pancakes might be likened to glasses by Prada. Sport sun protection might share certain characteristics with yet other pancakes on the west side of Los Angels. In Santa Monica one can find delicious pancakes that come with fresh strawberries. That breakfast combo often starts the day for diners at “Bread and Porridge” on Wilshire Boulevard. That is a good breakfast spot for those residents planning to spend the day at the beach. South of Santa Monica, one can enjoy some unique butterscotch pancakes. Those are served at “Doughboys” on West 3rd Street. Doughboys is a great place to take a visitor who has arrived at LAX on a morning flight East of Santa Monica, but still in or close to west Los Angeles, one can enjoy breakfast in the company of many customers who have chosen to eat while wearing Prada sunglasses. Some of those Prada sunglass wearers dine at Hugo’s on Santa Monica Boulevard. Diverse residents from West Hollywood travel to that spot. A number of them have the same interests as the diners at the Literati Café, a popular area restaurant. Diners in Hugo’s know that the Literati Café does not have pumpkin pancakes, a Hugo’s specialty. The Literati Café also lacks a condiment that‘s available at another Westside restaurant. Pancake lovers who like to eat their flap stacks with powdered sugar often visit the Lazy Daisy Café. Located on Wilshire Boulevard, it is in the same neighborhood as the Literati Café. Yet it attracts a different sort of clientele. No doubt word of Daisy’s good pancakes will cause many more writers, students and artists to taste the pancakes at the Lazy Daisy Café. |
